Saturday 10:00am CanSkate
Program Description:
A 15 week Pre-CanSkate program beginning on Saturday September 12th and ending on December 19th. Program runs on Saturday at 10:00am at the Brian Kilrea (Canterbury) Arena.
What a Skater Needs to Bring:
Each skater is responsible for arriving with a CSA Approved hockey helmet, ice skates (preferably of the lace up variety), warm clothing (splash/snow pants are recommended), and gloves/mittens.
How the Session Runs:
Skaters will be placed into one of six groups on the ice and work to achieve ribbons in Balance (forwards skating and glides), Agility (jumps and turns), and Control (backwards and stopping). Once a skater passes elements from each of these fundamentals, they will receive a badge. Skaters need to collect six badges in total to complete all of the CanSkate fundamentals.
The session is broken into a 10 minute warm up activity, 30 minutes of lesson time (where the skaters will rotate areas every 10 minutes), a 5 minute group activity, and a 5 minute cool down. During this time, the skaters will work with every coach, and get to practice each fundamental area.
Who to Talk to:
If there are any questions or special circumstances, then please reach out ahead of time to the CanSkate Coordinator at learntoskate@mintoskatingclub.com . If there are any questions or concerns on the ice, then the first point of contact is the Session Supervisor; who will be available during the session time.
