Skating Programs
There
are three types of skating lesson programs offered by the Minto
Skating Club - CanSkate, Minto Super Starters and Private
Lessons.
The CanSkate program is a learn-to-skate program for
both children and adults. It is offered in a group
lesson format. This program is the way most people begin
figure skating instruction. The program is structured
into 7 levels. Individuals enrolling in CanSkate do not
have to be members of the Minto Skating Club. For
further details visit our CanSkate section.
The Minto Super Starters program is a group lesson for skaters
working on figure skating skills beyond those taught in CanSkate. The Minto
Super Starters program includes membership
in the Minto Skating Club, the ice time and the group
instruction in a single fee. Skaters within this program
are usually working on their Preliminary test level. Private
lessons involve membership in the Minto Skating Club,
fees for ice time (available all months of the year) and
fees for coaching. Students select and make coaching
arrangements directly with the coach of their choice.
Typically on a 45 minute period of ice time, a student
will sign up for 15 minutes of coaching and spend the
other 30 minutes practicing. Students working on all
levels of the Test Program and the Competitive Program
usually develop their skills through private lessons. See
the General Information section for a more detailed
overview of typical skater development paths.
