Seminar with Brian Orser

On July 4th, 2002, the Minto Skating Club had Brian Orser in for three seminars.

The seminars were for senior skaters, intermediate skaters and junior skaters.

The skaters learned several points and tips from Brian on stroking, spins and jumps. For each element, Brian would explain and then demonstrate his point. Then the group would break out and practice. During the practice Brian would go up to individual skaters and provide pointers.

As always, Brian's words were encouraging and positive for the skaters.

For the junior skaters, Brian concentrated on the importance of preparation before a jump. He would illustrate holding a backwards glide with with a strong edge (strong enough to make a scrunching sound) prior to the turn into the jump. He emphasized that at this point the skater should be mentally prepared to begin the jump. As the skaters practiced this with basic waltz jumps the improvements were quite apparent.

After the seminar Brian and Lynn Nightingale dressed up for a fashion shoot by the Ottawa Sun in the studio arena.
